I went to Rose Ross with friends I hadn't seen for a while. The ambiance in the restaurant was lovely, with dim warm lights that made it a very pleasant environment to share a good bottle of wine. The food was very nice. We had the fish balls and akras balls as an appetizer, and then the beef with vegetables, chorizo-stuffed squid, and duck. All three plates were good, with the beef being a highlight. Overall, the experience was good, with the kitchen striking a delicate balance between high-end and homely. The price tag is a bit steep for it to be an every day - or every week - restaurant, but for special occasions, it is a great choice. I recommend it wholeheartedly.

Each dish is a delicious creative yet comforting combination of local and seasonal food. We were a party of 3 who likes sharing plates so we got to taste a good chunk of the menu from appetizers to desserts, and I already know I will have a hard time picking next time since everything was so good. The atmosphere was pretty nice, I liked the style, but especially appreciated the effort on sound quality (dampening and good speakers), that kept it cozy and not a loud place like so many places. Service was on point, I could nitpick about the first wine pairing being a bit late, but the waitress made up for it.

Our hotel made a reservation for us at this off the tourist track restaurant. We split things family style. Appetizers: Fleur de courgette tempura (zucchini blossoms stuffed with ricotta, parmesan, lemon thyme, mushrooms and peppers)-delicious; asparagus with lobster and sauce of (very mild) curry and kefir; and last, and the surprise hit, croquette de canard (duck) confit with goat cheese, dill truffles and a carrots vinaigrette. Plats principaux (mains): half Cornish hen with salsa verde, grilled green onions, cherry tomatoes in chili oil (really an appetizer), scallops with miso butter, maitake mushrooms, cabbage and artichokes (my wife’s favorite); and agneau de Kamouraska: braised lamb, it’s jus, pistachios, cipollini onions formed into a brick with a side of parsley potatoes (my favorite). Nice wine list but my son and his fiance had cocktails (also a hit) so my wife had an Alsatian pinot blanc-pinot gris blend and I an above average Cotes du Rhone. Service was slow but the staff (mostly Chloe) were nice. Didn’t order dessert since we had gone patisserie surfing earlier.
